The Department of Public Policy and Management welcomed students from Vooya Jakarta for a Campus Visit and Academic Writing Workshop. The activity, which took place from 13.00 to 16.00 in BA room 209, presented various informative sessions that provided insight into the undergraduate study program at DMKP and scientific writing skills.

The event opened with a presentation by Dr. Gabriel Lele, Head of the Undergraduate Program, about the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) in Management and Public Policy (MKP). Dr. Gabriel explained in detail what the IUP is, the registration schedule, required fees, and conducted an interactive Q&A session.

Next, Nurul Fajri Aqilah, the head of the Student Family of the Department of Management and Public Policy (GAMAPI), shared information about student organizations at UGM. In her session, Nurul explained the fundamental differences between organizational activities at the high school level and those in university.

The event continued with an academic writing workshop led by Dr. Erda Rindrasih. The workshop began with a 15-minute exercise where participants wrote an autobiography envisioning their future selves. This was followed by an explanation of various important aspects of academic writing. Dr. Erda covered topics such as the definition and types of academic writing, the characteristics of academic writing, and the research process.

Dr. Erda explained the structure of an academic article, which includes the introduction, methods, results, and discussion or conclusion. “Academic writing has a clear and logical structure, like paragraphs arranged like a hamburger,” said Dr. Erda. She also emphasized the importance of reading as a foundation for writing. “To write well, you need to read a lot. Your writing reflects what you absorb. Reading positive literature will result in positive writing,” she added.

This activity was expected to provide new insights for students from Vooya Jakarta, helping them to better understand college activities and inspiring them to continue their education at UGM and become part of a dynamic and innovative academic community.
